Father of ayurveda surgery Is Maharishi Susruta. Shalya Tantra or the technique of surgery is one of the eight branches of (asthanga) Ayurveda. Ayurvedic surgeons are traditionally known as Dhanwantareeyas (after Dhanwantari).

Now days Ayurveda surgeons perform surgeries mainly for anorectal disease with great expertise and a unique method is called kshar sutra.

5. Reoccurrence rate of the disease is minimal as compared to the traditional surgical technique.
6. Its a very cost effective procedure as compared to other techniques.
